Khmer Classical Dance

There are a number of dances that are  performed in  Cambodia.  If  you are a dance  enthusiast you  can  have  a great time  watching  a  number of  classical  dance forms  that are  performed in  this  country. the country has a rich history as well  as  a  colorful  cultural heritage. The tourists  from different  parts  of the  world come to this amazing country to experience the rich  cultural  heritage  of the  country.  If you are planning to visit  Cambodia  in  near  future you should  have a good idea  about the  cultural scenario  of the  country. Otherwise  you  may  miss  some  of the  most  important  aspects  of of the  country.

While  in  Cambodia  do  not  forget  to  enjoy a  Khmer  classical  dance performance. This  dance  form  has found its  origin  in Indian court  dance.  In  Hindu  mythology  the  apsaras  used  to  dance  in the  ccourt  of  the  gods.  Apsaras are  nothing  but  nymphs who  were very  beautiful  and  were born  to  dance  for  the  gods.  The  music  and  dance  in Cambodia have  also drawn the  inspiration  from  the traditions  of  Thailand as  well as  Java,  Indonesia.

In this  classical  Cambodian  dance  the women were  bright  colored  attires.  Their headdresses are generally very  elaborate. In this  dance  form the  women perform very slow  and graceful  dance  movement along with the  music  that  is  produced  by  the pipeat orchestras.  The  pinpeat  orchestras  are  another well known aspect of the classical dance  in Cambodia.
