Royal Ballet Dancing

The  most  popular  classical dance of  Cambodia  is  based  on an  epic  named Ramayana. The Classical Dance of Cambodia is  one of  the  most  popular dance  form  in that  region. Ramayana or the epic poem of Rama is the base  of  this  beautiful  dance form. This epic is believed to be  written by a Hindu holy man who  is named Valmiki by Brahma - the god of creation. The religious literary work or epic dates back to  about 4 AD.  This  epic is  known  in a variety  of versions all around India as  well as  other parts  of  Southeast Asia.

In Cambodia  the  story of Ramayana has  been  staged using  music  and  dance. This  dance  is performed by the royal  Ballet group. The Royal  Ballet performs this dance  form since the  18th  century.  Though  the  story  is  also  known in  the  villages  of Cambodia this dance form  is  not  performed in the  villages.  The dance representation of  Ramayana is  generally  performed  at the  courts  and  palaces as well as  in  royal  festivals. Pinpeat  Orchestra plays  the music  for this  beautiful  ballet dance. Traditional  instruments like  xylophones, metallophones,  horizontal gongs, drums and cymbals.
